New Year's Eve with the Allestads

I saw the Allestad family through their back window, they must have forgotten to close the blinds because they were left open wide enough to see through.
I watched as four of them played the board game R.I.S.K. against each other while watching movies one after another.
They soon went to the kitchen to eat the cake that the father of the children had placed on the table in the kitchen a few minutes before. I also watched as the little ones got their faces all dirty with the frosting witch had previously topped the cake.
After they ate their cake they rushed back in to the living room to watch their movie. I could not see what they were watching due to the fact that the computer that they were watching it on was in an angle that made it look dark to me.
I heard a loud explosion, a firework; and apparently, they also heard it; because they rushed towards the frontal window to watch as their neighbors launched their fireworks throughout the neighborhood.
I took my eyes off the window for a small moment to look at the source of the explosions that filled my ringing ears. I saw a large firework that exploded in the distance. Then I looked back into the back window. I looked down at my watch that was strapped a bit tightly on my wrist, the display showed 11:59 pm. Almost New Year’s Day. The kids’ father called their mother on the phone. Then began the countdown. They counted down from 20 to 10 to 1, and then New Year’s Day was here.
They drank some sparkling cider. Then they went into the hall and got ready to go to their beds.

Then I left because there was nothing else to observe, since they had gone to their cozy, warm beds.
